this week at Bentley......

It has been an absolute pleasure to spend the last few days finally embarking on my journey as the Headteacher of Bentley Primary School. Over the past few days, I have been warmly welcomed by the dedicated staff, supportive parents and of course, the delightful children. The enthusiasm and positive energy within our school community are truly inspiring, and I am excited to be a part of it.

One of the highlights of my first few days has been spending time in the playground, getting to know the children. Learning their names is a top priority for me. Some of the children have been challenging me – so far I have been doing OK, but there are a lot more to learn!

It has also been wonderful to meet and greet some parents at the school gate. I want to thank each and every one of you for your warm reception. Your involvement and support are crucial in creating a nurturing and stimulating learning environment for our children.

I would also like to extend my sincere thanks to all the parents who attended our recent parents' evenings. Your presence and active engagement demonstrate your commitment to your child's education. I hope you found the meetings informative and beneficial in gaining a deeper understanding of your child's progress and areas for further development. Currently, attendance at parents’ evening is 98%. It would be wonderful if we could make this 100%! If you were unable to attend, please contact the school office to arrange a meeting.

I look forward to meeting more of the school community over the coming weeks.

Attendance

This week’s whole school attendance is 95.76%.

Although the government sets a target of 95% for primary schools, our governors have set a target of 98% for our school.  This is because an attendance rate of 95% still means that your child would have had approximately ten days of absence throughout the year; this is considered to be a significant loss to learning.

The class with the best attendance this week is Year R again, with 99.38%. Excellent work year R!

Year 5 also reached our target with 98.38%.  Well done year 5.

EASTER SHOWCASE.

At Bentley, the children have been learning about how Easter is celebrated by Christians in other countries. Each class has had a go at an Easter tradition from their country.

We will be putting together a fabulous showcase of our discoveries in the Sports Hall on Tuesday (26th March). This will be open for parents, friends and families to come and see at the end of school.

Eco Update

Great Big School Clean

In partnership with other schools in the area, this week Eco Council participated in the Keep Britain Tidy ‘Great Big School Clean’ as part of our Eco Schools Award.  We pledged to collect one bag of rubbish around our school site and on the recreation ground.  Key Stage One Eco Council did an awesome job of cleaning up the school grounds where there wasn’t a big litter problem. They noticed any litter found was mostly plastic.

Key Stage Two ventured out of the school site where they targeted the recreation ground.  Again, there wasn’t a huge problem with litter and plastic packaging was also the number one item collected.

Books 2 Africa

Following a sort out of reading scheme books last year, several boxes of outdated books were donated to the Books 2 Africa charity.  The charity is brilliant at providing updates about where the books have been donated, and it is exciting to know that our books have safely arrived in Africa where some of them, including some Biff, Chip and Kipper books have been donated to Ghana. The scheme is open to anybody wishing to donate books with the only costs involved being a charge for the courier to collect them.  More details can be found here - https://books2africa.org/

Information about School meals

Hampshire County Council is strengthening the visual representation of its corporate brand. This involves more of its services, including HC3S, consistently using the Hampshire County Council logo. Hampshire will continue to provide our school catering service with the same catering team in place and there will be no changes to the service provided – it will just be badged differently. The lunch menu will change over Easter and the new logos will be on those menus.
