It has been a busy couple of weeks in school. Our County ‘link inspector’ is called an LLP (Leading Learning Partner) and we now have Tamsin Austoni to work with at Bentley. She conducted a curriculum review day and led an evening training for Governors. Tamsin has a wealth of experience to share and she is very knowledgeable about current teaching research. She was impressed by our teachers’ passion for the subjects they lead and what has been accomplished even through lockdown! She helped Subject Leaders to plan next steps from Year R to Year 6 and gave a stimulating feedback with some new ideas as she presented to Governors. We look forward to working alongside her further, as we always want look to improve as a school.

In memory of Jo Dobson

Thank you to all of you who have donated so generously to show friendship and love for Brian Dobson and his granddaughter, Scarlet (Year 5) after the passing of Brian’s wife and Scarlet’s Grandmother, Jo.  You have been so generous and the family are truly touched by this display of support from their community. As you may be aware, Scarlet has lived with her grandparents throughout her time at Bentley CE Primary School and the money will be used by Brian in any way he sees fit - perhaps for additional childcare and support, a short holiday with Scarlet and other family members or any other activities or needs they might have as a family. A plea from a Bentley resident

We live at Beechgrove and share a drive with Rectory Cottage directly opposite the drive leading up to Fox Hall.    Could I please request that parents dropping and picking up pupils do not use our drive on the main Bentley road as a turning point please!  Twice in the last week my husband has driven out of our drive and nearly collided with parents turning their cars!  If this continues it is only a matter of time before there is an accident.  It is a private drive and not a turning point for parents.

 

Interfaith Art Competition

Each year across all Hampshire Schools a special Interfaith Calendar is created. As our RE Leader Mrs Scott-Bromley is also our Art & Design champion, this is the PERFECT opportunity to combine the two for all our children! We challenge everyone to get involved and there will be a prize for the class with the most entries, as well as super art prizes for the three best entries for us to submit to the Hampshire Competition.

The challenge requires children to produce a painting, drawing or poem no larger than A4. The artwork should represent a significant religious event from one of the nine faiths belonging to the Interfaith Network; Jewish, Muslim, Christian, Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist, Bah i, Jain and Zoroastrian. Research and plan your work with a check if the religion chosen prohibits representation of founders, other human beings or animals. Think creatively and plan how the image will look in print to help Hampshire pick YOURS! (The competition organisers suggest avoiding Easter and Christmas for entries as these are often the most popular in the Hampshire competition). The deadline for entries is Thursday 20th May.  Good luck everyone!

 

Trash Mob!

Today children from Eco-Council and willing volunteers from every class participated in "Trash Mob"! This litter pick is part of the ‘Surfers Against Sewage Plastic-Free Schools Award’ which we are taking part in. Amongst the litter collected were plastic snack wrappers and the straw wrappers from drink cartons.

Although we only picked up a small amount from the school grounds and the recreation ground, the children were able to see the impact of litter on our environment. We hope to include litter picks as a regular activity in school.
