We started the day with the whole school gathering to plant ‘Queen Elizabeth the apple tree’ outside. Year 6 took the lead as part of their legacy work this term and then wowed us at lunchtime with a special Platinum Jubilee song they had learnt. The whole community enjoyed a delicious lunch and stood up for ‘God Save the Queen’, waving flags and enjoying the event. A big thank you to the PTFA for funding super crowns and flags.

Prayer week was happening at St Mary’s church this week so we joined in and all classes were able to experience the fun, inspiring and thought-provoking activities set up to enjoy. The feedback from Gemma, Steve and Pippa was so pleasing. Not only did they commend the children for their respectful, thoughtful behaviour but the commented on their joy and beautiful manners. Well done children and thank you for staff and volunteers for helping this to go ahead.

We hope everyone has got a relaxing week planned for over half-term as it is going to be busy next half-term with lots of fun!

• We are requesting filled jam jars and will have a free choice non-uniform day on Friday 17th June in exchange for Bfest donations. Then we have Bfest itself on Saturday 18^th from 12-4pm and every child will be performing! Save the date for this brilliant afternoon led by the PTFA.
• We have the wonderful Bentley Bike Ride on Saturday 2nd July which has been brilliantly masterminded by Ben Bingham.
• A reminder that we have Move Up day on 1st July, an INSET day on 8th July.
• We have another fun filled week, in our penultimate week of term, with History Day on Tuesday 12th July (dress up as a historic figure or historic era), French Day on Wednesday 13th (get out the red, white and blue again, but for France this time!) and then Science Day on 14th. So much fun ahead!

…to everyone who took part in the sponsored read over the Easter holidays.  Your generosity has enabled us to buy lots of amazing books for our library and the classrooms from Usborne Books. Thanks also to Molly Scotton for facilitating this. Hampshire Library service were doing an annual book review and were complementary about the range and diversity of our library (and very impressed with the new books).

 

B-Fest Auditions!

On Saturday 18th June we are holding the most anticipated festival of the year, Bfest 2022! For it to be the best festival ever, we need performers and that's where you come in!

We are looking for soloists, girl-groups, boy-bands, guitarists, pianists, rock bands, jazz ensembles and everything in between to audition to be on the Main Stage at Bfest.

There will be a sign up sheet to audition on the office window from Monday 6th - Wednesday 8th June. After that time, no more entries will be allowed.

Auditions will be held during lunchtimes on 9th, 10th, 13th and 14th of June. Once you have signed up to audition, you will be given an audition date and time. Anyone from Year R to Year 6 can audition, but we know numbers are likely to be high and entries exceptional, so unfortunately not everyone who auditions will be necessarily able to perform at Bfest. So make sure you are practised, polished and ready to perform!

For the auditions, you can bring a backing track via a YouTube/Spotify link or a CD. You might want to perform acapella and that's ok too. If you are playing an instrument, you will need to bring that to school on your audition day (with the exception of a keyboard which we will provide.)

Sports Day – Wednesday 8th June

We are so pleased to be able to invite parents for Sports Day again this year and look forward to your support and community partnership at this super whole school event.  Children definitely need their PE kits in school on Monday and Tuesday to run heats ready for Wednesday, but we will send all PE kits home on Tuesday afternoon. The children will need to come to school on Wednesday in their school shorts, white socks and trainers and their house colour t-shirt.  It doesn’t have to be one with the logo embroidered on it – it can be any plain t-shirt (no logos please) in your house colour. The children won’t need their book bags but will need a water bottle.  They may order a school picnic lunch on the day – ham or cheese – or can bring their own healthy packed lunch from home.

The children will take part in the usual carousel of field event activities first thing in the morning followed by a short break to refresh before coming out onto the recreation ground at 11am for the track events.  Parents are invited to come along and watch (and cheer!)

We aim to finish the track events with a community ‘Runtastic’ around the recreation ground. We would love everyone to join in whether running, jogging or walking - so don’t forget your trainers as well as your picnic lunches!  We will finish with a family picnic and children will be dismissed by their teachers before lunch so you can eat together.  Our Bentley children really put their all into the event and are usually extremely tired, so on this one off occasion we are happy for them to go home with you after lunch. If your child is remaining at school for the afternoon, they will spend a relaxing afternoon doing fun tasks after their energetic morning.  CMSports football will run as usual, but there will be no Afterschool club on this afternoon.

Come and enjoy the beautiful gardens of Birtley House at the Association’s Open Day on Sunday 29th May, from 2:00 – 4:30.pm

We would love to re-connect with all our members and celebrate the passing of a difficult couple of years.

• This is a free event which is also open to members of the public.
• There will be plant and honey sales, a pollinator trail for children, and a chance to catch up with old and not-so-old friends over tea and cakes.
• There will also be an observation hive with live bees so please bring your friends, neighbours and their children to show them what you do!
• No Bee-suits required!

Open Farm Sunday…

Cricket at Eggar’s

Our Year 4 and 5 cricketers were fantastic this week when they visited Eggar’s School this week - they triumphed against three teams from other locals schools to be the winning team. Well done!  Mr Goddard accompanied them and was, once again, really impressed with not only their playing, but also their sportsmanship and good manners. Well done to Abbie, Charlotte, Dominic and Sam in Year 4 and Evie-May, George, Nic and Poppy in Year 5.

 

 

Jam Jars needed…

We’re setting up a new stall at Bfest this year and hope every child can contribute. Please collect a clean jam jar (or two) over the next couple of weeks and bring it into school filled with some fun treats for a child. This can be sweets, art materials, small toys…anything you can fit in a jam jar! You can do some recycling or be creative with what goes in the jam jar – just pop in items that will appeal to a primary aged child. Please do have an adult check that no precious items have been given away and deposit all donations in the office box from Monday 6th-Friday 10th June. Thanks in advance.
