This week at Bentley...
We are in full on apple harvest mode here at school. A big thank you to all the PTFA involved with this. The children have enjoyed their apple picking fun walks in beautiful autumnal Bentley. The juice making is underway and sales will be available soon.
We have our first sports competition of the year after school. Good luck to all the Year 5 and 6 hockey players!
In class news this week…
Year R are continuing with our phonics sounds and numbers. Having fun with numbers, for example, spotting when there are 1, 2 or 3 dots without counting them.
Year 1 have had lots of fun learning about the part-whole model using a giant version on the school playground.
Year 2 have enjoyed learning about 'greater than' and 'less than' symbols in Maths, as well as starting a new learning journey in English (The Gingerbread Man).
Year 3 have had lots of fun learning about the skeleton and bones in our body. We enjoyed our apple picking this week.
Year 4 have worked hard in English to include exciting and effective new words in our writing.
Year 5 and 6 have enjoyed watching the performance of Macbeth by The Young Shakespeare Company today.
Enjoy a super weekend. I recommend getting out the warmer clothes (vests, hats and winter coats for school) this weekend as the weather has taken a chilly turn, especially in the mornings! Please do a check on labels, as the Lost Property cupboard already seems rather full and our team of helpers cannot return unnamed items.
STAFF NEWS
Mr Goddard has had a very intensive two days of MIDAS training to qualify as a minibus trainer. A huge thank you to him for taking on this responsibility. If you are able to volunteer to drive the minibus, for at least three events each year, please contact the office to sign up as we are starting to collate training dates. Some classes have no qualified minibus drivers, which puts school visits at risk of being cancelled.
Sadly, Mrs Fiona Tessendorf leaves us today for new adventures. We wish her all the best and hope she’ll stay in touch. Mrs Tegan Hansen is taking on the Librarian role and we are interviewing today for some other posts in school.
PARENTS’ EVENING
Parent/Teacher meetings are an invaluable opportunity to hear about your child’s progress so far this academic year, talk through their targets for the remainder of this term and next, and to discuss any concerns you may have.
You are invited to make an appointment to meet with your child's teacher in person on either Tuesday 18th October between 3.30pm and 6.00pm or Thursday 20th October between 5.30pm and 7.30pm for a ten-minute appointment. Timeslots may be booked from 8pm on 6th October - please click here to log on to your Scopay account to select an appointment time. Bookings close at 9pm on Thursday 13th October.
We ask each parent to complete a feedback form detailing any questions they have and return it to school by Monday 17th October. This information will enable our teaching staff to make the best use of your ten minute appointment! You can print the feedback form from the bottom of this page or complete it online by clicking here. If you are having trouble accessing your child’s account on Scopay, please let the office know asap.
CHILDCARE VOUCHERS
We know money is tight for every household this winter. Did you know that if your child attends Breakfast Club, Afterschool Club or one of our enrichment clubs before or after school, you may pay for these using Childcare Vouchers. Please ask your employer which voucher scheme they use and let the school office know so we can set up your account.
SENDING OUR THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS
Rev Yann Dubrueil, our former Vicar, has an operation today. He has asked people to say a prayer for his family and we know many of your will wish to say a prayer for Yann and his health too.
APPLE JUICE
We have picked up the first of the Apple Juice and Apple Cider Vinegar stocks and these will be on sale soon, we will text out dates and times. We have a couple more class apple picks planned and are still happy to receive your windfalls and picked apples. Please leave all your bagged apples between the two trees in the staff car park. If you or a local friend/neighbour has apples which need picking, please let us know as we may be able to help.
FILM NIGHT – FRIDAY 7TH OCTOBER
Don’t forget to book your child’s place at our first film night of the school year, places are limited so don’t delay! – click here to book.
TISSUES
Please could we ask each child to donate a box of tissues to be shared amongst the various classes and rooms at school. You can hand them into the office or drop them into the box in the morning. We suggest the following months for the donations:
Year 2 and 3 - October
Year 4 and 5 - November
Year R and 1 - January
Year 6 - February
GARDENING FUN
On Monday, the children will have the opportunity to donate 50p to charity in exchange for guessing the weight of the giant marrow. Closest guess will win a marrow - feed your family for a week!
