this week at Bentley.....
Happy New Year and welcome back to school 2024! I hope you all had an enjoyable Christmas and spent time doing all the things you love to do. It has been lovely to welcome all the children back to school this week and hear their stories of their Christmas activities and family gatherings; it sounds as though lots of fun was had! Thank you very much for all the lovely gifts that you gave to the staff at the end of last term. Your generosity was very much appreciated by each and every one of us.
It has been a super start to the term. All the children have been impressing the staff with their positive attitude towards their learning and their ability to quickly get back into the usual school routines – well done everyone and keep up the good work!
We have lots of exciting events happening this half term, from school trips and visitors to cake sales and discos! All the details will be listed in the newsletters over the next few weeks, so remember to check the newsletter for all the information you need. Clubs will resume from next week, with the last clubs of the term being the week beginning 18th March. The only exception to this is the week in which parents’ evening is being held, beginning 11th March.

Year R entry September 2024 deadline.
Our last open day will take place next Tuesday 9th January 2024. The deadline for making an application for a school place is then on the 15th January. If you know anyone whose child is starting reception this September, please encourage them to come and look round. Similarly, if you already have children in the school and another child starting in reception, please come and see us; every child is different and the staff would like to meet them.
Attendance
At Bentley CE Primary School, we believe that good attendance ensures children have the best educational start in life and that arriving on time builds good habits for the future and starts each day positively.
The Government sets a standard of 95% attendance for primary schools. Our Governors have set a school target of 98%. Achieving an attendance rate of 95% means that your child would have had approximately ten days of absence throughout the year.
To support your child to have good attendance, please avoid making routine doctor or dentist appointments during school hours and only request a leave of absence if it is for an exceptional circumstance. Please be aware that there are very few reasons for which the school is able to authorise an absence. To promote good attendance in school, we will announce the class with the best weekly attendance in our collective worship on a Friday, as well as display this in our newsletter. We understand that sometimes children do get poorly and absence from school is therefore unavoidable. In these circumstances, please inform the school office as soon as possible, so they can make a note that your child will be absent.
Calling for…volunteers!
Do you have some time to spare? Would you like to help the children at Bentley?
Volunteers are always very welcome in our school and we can put your generously donated time to very good use! At the moment, we really need people to volunteer to listen to our children read on a regular basis. If you have a spare 30 minutes (or more) once a week and would like to support our children on their journey to becoming readers, we would love to hear from you! If you are unable to commit to once a week but would still like to help in some way, then please do still get in touch.
A request for…tissues!
It’s that time of year again when noses seem to become extra sniffly and it would be great if every family could help keep those germs at bay by donating a box of tissues, so we can ‘Catch It, Bin It, Kill It’! We would really appreciate your donations this year in:
January – Year R, Year 2, Year 4 and Year 6
February – Year 1, Year 3 and Year 5
Please give your box of tissues to your child’s class teacher or hand them in at the office. Thank you!
Wild Adventures Forest School
