Year 5 have been busy finishing their Ancient Egyptian Death Masks, as you can see!

Our Year 6 students had the wonderful opportunity of visiting Winchester Cathedral with hundreds of other child for a special leavers' service.

‘In the morning, we participated in different events including: a tour of the grounds, a hunt of significant artefacts and a questionnaire about their 'Kings and Scribes' exhibit. We brought our Anthony Gormley statues that we made, to be part of a display in the cathedral. During the service, we sang songs together with a live organ (one of the pipes from it was 100m long!) and listened to how we can act in service as we move on to secondary school. We were impressed with how big the cathedral was and the detail in the stained-glass windows - it really was miraculous how it was built centuries ago!’

Meanwhile, on Wednesday, our Year 1 class enjoyed a delightful day out at Bockett's Farm where they spent time with various animals, discovered fascinating facts about them and learnt about where our food comes from. The highlight of the day was the Pig Race, where six very enthusiastic pigs sped round a course while the children (and staff) all clapped and cheered the pigs on! Thank you to Mr. Brace and Mr. Sarling for taking the children on mini-buses. These outings are invaluable in bringing learning to life and creating lasting memories for our pupils.

Today was particularly exciting as we welcomed the Forrester family to our school. They've been busy capturing the essence of Bentley School through their camera lenses, documenting the myriad of activities that make our school so special. We're eagerly anticipating the results and can't thank Mr. and Mrs. Forrester enough for their time and expertise.

Now, I must express my unbridled enthusiasm for tomorrow's BFEST! Our students have been rehearsing diligently, both in their classes and individually, and I'm continually amazed by their courage. Standing on stage to perform in front of an audience is no small feat, and I'm incredibly proud of each and every one of them. A heartfelt “Thank You” goes out to our phenomenal PTFA for organising this event. I warmly invite all of you to join us – it promises to be a fun-filled day, and the weather forecast looks favourable too!

On a more serious note, I've been informed that some adults have been vaping on school grounds during collection times. I kindly ask you to remember that our entire site is a non-smoking area, which includes vaping. Your cooperation in maintaining a healthy environment for our children is greatly appreciated.

As always, I am deeply grateful for your continued support and engagement with our school community. The experiences we provide, the memories we create, and the learning that takes place here at Bentley are all made possible by our collective efforts. Attendance

This week’s whole school attendance is 95.88 %

Although the government sets a target of 95% for primary schools, our governors have set a target of 98% for our school.  This is because an attendance rate of 95% still means that your child would have had approximately ten days of absence throughout the year; this is considered a significant loss to learning.

The class with the best attendance this week is year 6 with 98.59%. Well done year 6.

 

CUP WINNERS

Congratulations to ‘Wilberforce’ who won the House Cup this week for the most house points collected this week.

 

 

LEAVERS SERVICE

Year 6 attended the Leavers’ Service in Winchester Cathedral on Tuesday, where they celebrated their time at Primary School with many other Year 6 children from across the diocese.  We are all very proud of them and wish them luck and success as they move on at the end of this year to secondary school.

 

But before they leave, Year 6 go off to Calshot for four days of fun and excitement! 

Have a fantastic time year 6, and parents, please keep an eye on the blog on the website. From Tuesday, we will be updating it each day so that you can follow all the amazing things they are getting up to.

 

WATER BOTTLES

Please, please ensure your child has a water bottle with them every day, particularly when the weather is warm.  The office does not have enough spare bottles to supply the number of children asking for them.  If you have any ‘borrowed’ bottles at home, we would be very grateful if you could please return them. They have ‘office’ written on them.

 

HELP WANTED

Help at home is wanted for an elderly couple located at the Farnham end of Bentley.  Ideal for a Bentley school parent who has dropped their child/children off at school in the morning and then could spare an hour or so to pop down to help with various household chores.

JUNK PLEASE!

Puppet club and Year R need your junk! Please could you save any boxes (e.g. cereal or other food boxes), washed out plastic bottles, yoghurt pots and other clean recyclables that can be glued or taped together. We also like large boxes! We will leave a box by the Year R gate for any donations at the start and end of the day.

CONGRATULATIONS

Congratulations to Seb and Jasper who took part in the BJA Southern Area Development Judo Competition this week.  There were 250 children competing in the competition and Seb came third in his group.

Neither of the boys had done any type of competition before, so it was quite intimidating, but they both tried really hard and were very brave.

'The Alton Arts Festival' is a 10-day, multi-arts, multi-venue festival taking place for the first time in July 2024, in Alton. Hampshire.

1 day left to BFest!!

The children are rehearsed, the sun looks set to shine and the PTFA are excited to welcome you to B-Fest 2024! ☀️ 

We thought it might be an idea to give you a few hints and tips before you arrive so you know what to expect.

Gates open at 12, with choir kicking off the festival with their performance. Choir please arrive at 11:50 to be ready. Volunteers on the first slot, please also arrive a bit early. 

At the entrance gate you’ll be able to purchase:

1. Your entry. £5 per family (up to two adults and three children) or £2 per individual ticket

2. Tokens

3. Kids inflatables pass

Apart from at the entrance, we are a cash-free event this year. This decision has been made because, as you can imagine, it is just not sensible (or very easy) to have a large quantity of cash around the school.  Payment will be by token, and cards will also be taken at the food and drink stalls (bar, bbq, kids refreshments, tea table and ‘Bentley Mess’ (strawberries and ice cream!)).

Tokens are worth 50p each. They are sold individually, in £5 worth, £10 worth and £20 worth (ie, there are 40 tokens in the £20 bag). Tokens can be spent at all the stalls. If anyone has pre-ordered tokens, these will be handed out to the children at school on Friday.

If anyone has pre-ordered their entrance ticket, we will have your name at the door. We will also be selling these in person today after school.

Inflatable passes are in the form of a new Bentley Hand Stamp! This gives children all-afternoon access to the inflatables. Please note: children are your responsibility at all times and please respect the number restrictions and safety rules. 🏰

Class performance times will be on display near the stage. Please can children meet their class teacher 10 minutes prior to their performance time. Individual performances will be after their respective class. We can’t wait to hear them all! 🎶

We have lots of food and drink options available, class stalls, kids' fun, Hampton's face painting, snow machines and more…! It’s going to be so much fun!

The rainbow raffle will be drawn towards the end of the afternoon. There are some fantastic prizes - hampers, pub lunches, treatment vouchers, coffee vouchers, book vouchers and more! There will be more tickets available to buy at the event if you would like more. 🌈

Thank you to all of you who have put your name down to volunteer. If you are on card reader duty, please see the instructions sent out soon (or catch one of us if you need help). There are still slots needing to be filled if you’re able to help!

A reminder that it may be helpful to bring some camping chairs to watch the performances and enjoy your food and drink. And that we need some cakes for the tea tent, so if you fancy a bit of baking on Saturday morning, we’d really appreciate it. 🍰

Unfortunately, it has to end at some point and the festival will close at 4pm.
