This week at Bentley...

Welcome back! I hope you all had a wonderful Easter break and managed to enjoy some well-deserved rest. I can’t quite believe we’re already into the final term of the year – time really does fly! The summer term is always one of my favourites. With (hopefully!) some sunshine on the way, we’re looking forward to getting outside more and making the most of all the exciting events ahead.

Over the break, I had the joy of spending time in Florida with my family and friends – it truly was a magical time, filled with special memories.

I’d like to give a very warm welcome to Mrs Lucy Williams, who has joined us as our new Year 5 teacher. We’re thrilled to have her with us and I’m sure everyone will make her feel very welcome as she becomes part of our Bentley family.

We’re also really pleased to officially welcome Mrs Kathleen Proud to our team. Although she’s already a familiar face in school, she’ll now be working with us every Friday – we’re so glad to have her on board.

A quick reminder that next week is our much-anticipated Colour Run, organised by our fantastic PTFA. If your child would like to take part, please make sure you have completed the waiver form – without it, unfortunately, they won’t be able to join in the fun.

As always, there are so many moments that make me proud of our children, but I wanted to give a special mention this week to Year 1. On their trip to Arundel Castle, Miss Hastie told me how wonderfully the children behaved – and even more impressively, they received lots of lovely compliments from members of the public. A huge well done to them all – such a credit to our school.

Wishing you all a happy and positive week ahead.

SAFEGUARDING – EVERYBODY’S BUSINESS

County Lines

As part of our school’s safeguarding training, staff learn about the risks linked to county lines – a form of criminal exploitation where children are used to move drugs and money between areas. Schools in places with a train line, like ours, need to be extra vigilant, as transport links are often used in this activity. While this may seem more relevant to older children, younger pupils can also be at risk. At Bentley, we take this issue seriously and are committed to keeping children safe through education, early support, and strong community awareness.

PARENT GOVERNOR

PARENT WORKSHOP

At school, we use The Zones of Regulation as an approach to explaining and teaching children about their emotions.  Mrs Rhodes will be running a parent workshop on 30th April 2-3pm in the Sports Hall.

She will explain we use the Zones of Regulation in school but also how you can use them at home to support your children’s emotional development and regulation. Please contact the school office to reserve your place.

FOOD IN SCHOOL

A reminder that we are a nut-free school and so all snacks and lunch box items must be nut free please. This includes snacks sent in for after school. We have some children in school with very severe nut allergies, so we thank you for your co-operation in keeping everyone safe.

ARUNDEL

What a fantastic start to our history learning about Castles! Year 1 have been busy exploring Arundel Castle learning about how to defend and protect castles. We also learnt about the different parts of a castle including walking up the keep.

FAOS PRODUCTION OF ‘ANNIE’

Very excitingly, Heidi (Y2) will be performing in the upcoming FAOS production of Annie! Early bird tickets are available to book before the end of April if you would like to support Heidi and the cast.

ECO UPDATE

New Recycling System at Bentley

Following recent government legislation, staff and children at Bentley are now following a new simpler recycling system with the addition of food waste which is collected weekly and turned into electricity at an anaerobic digestion facility.  This week Madame Jones delivered training to staff and children with the incentive that good recycling will reduce our school’s carbon footprint and reduce the need for new raw materials.

Please note that the changes currently relate only to schools and businesses so items collected at school may be different to your kerbside waste collections.  However, we hope that the children are able to model good recycling behaviour at home including washing out containers before recycling and using the correct bins.

Kerbside Recycling at Home

Where you live will dictate what you are able to recycle at home.  For example, in East Hampshire only plastic bottles can be recycled along with cans, glass, paper and card - click here for more info. However, in Waverley Borough Council, there is a much more extensive plastic recycling collection including plastic trays as well as foil and food waste – please click here.

Lunchbox Waste

As a result of the addition of a food waste bin at lunchtime, children will no longer be allowed to throw away their lunchbox waste at school.  Therefore, please expect to dispose of it at home.

Local Recycling Schemes

I would like to put together a guide for local recycling schemes to share in a future newsletter. If you know of any, please could you contact the school office.

PTFA

🌈 Colour Run 🌈 Friday 2nd May

Waivers and sponsorship forms were sent home in book bags before the Easter holidays. THESE MUST BE SIGNED AND RETURNED FOR CHILDREN TO TAKE PART.

Payment of £6 (to cover the costs of the paint and equipment) must be paid via www.pta-events.co.uk/bentley or cash to the office.

Now time to raise sponsorship!! You can either collect cash or raise money through gofundme. This is a collective page for the whole school - https://gofund.me/9dadca4d. We’d love to raise £1000 for this event. Please share the link around to friends and family!

Children should note their fundraising on their fundraising sheet if they’d like to. It’s often very satisfying for them to see what they have raised.

In order for this fun event to go ahead we need your help, please signup where you can, you’ll get a good view helping as a marshal or paint thrower!!
