Over the whole week our classes have visited St Mary’s amazing Prayer Week. The church is open all week with special prayerful activities which everyone has really enjoyed. Feedback was children have impressed the volunteers at church by being respectful and engaged. Well done to everyone involved and thank you to St Mary’s and all the creative and thoughtful people involved.

On Monday we started the week in Collective Worship reflecting on how much we have all grown and learnt in our class families this year. We look forward to enjoying the last half term together before moving upwards!

Our afterschool Peace Club are meeting on Mondays this term (there are still spaces if anyone else would like to join). This week the children decided to raise money for Sitahuma School at Sports Day next week. After all the hard work of the sporting challenges and a yummy picnic lunch the lovely Peace Club members will be collecting donations and selling ice creams and lollies. Well done to Peace Club!

This money will make a huge difference in the lives of our friends in The Gambia.  Our own school budget difficulties were very much put into perspective when we heard that the Sitahuma School had been unable to provide school meals for several weeks until word got back to the Kaira Konko charity. Where budgets are fragile we are only too aware of how vulnerable schools can be, but our children would never go unfed at school.  Our infant children all receive a free school lunch every day and all the children here were very sad to hear others weren’t as fortunate.

Several of our super Year R children have really caught the ‘courageous advocacy’ bug and came up with ideas and suggestions to help their friends in Sitahuma… well done to Rhys and Sophia who inspired their families and a big thank you from Kaira Konko.

On Tuesday and Wednesday we were pleased to hear about the Eid celebrations of Bentley CE Primary School families as well as all our friends in Sitahuma School in The Gambia. Happy Eid!

On Thursday our Year 3 and 4 class went on a very interesting journey to Neasden, London by coach to visit a beautiful Hindu temple called Shri Swaminarayan Mandir. The children were brilliantly behaved. Thank you to the teachers for organising this brilliant visit. 

I know that we have a lot of pupils and families camping all weekend across Scout, Cub and Beaver troops all over East Hampshire. Good luck to everyone involved and please have a nice early night on Sunday back in your own beds, after a lot of fun no doubt!

Staff news

Mrs Tewkesbury and Mrs Drew are delighted to welcome Max, Year 2, to the admin team on Thursday next week when he becomes the ‘Office Assistant for the Day’ having made the successful bid in the Promises Auction last term.  He will be answering the telephone, shredding paper, typing and swivelling on his chair – do pop in to see how he’s getting along!

As ever, we encourage everyone who is coming to wear house colours if you want to and to take part in the family ‘Runtastic’ too if you’d like. It is all about joining in and taking part whether you walk, jog or run. The more the merrier but don’t forget that we need a good cheering squad so get involved and do that if you are not taking part in running.

…Lucas, Year 1 who has been so inspired by the gardening team, he has planted his own herb and vegetable garden.  He even included some kale for his brother’s bearded dragon! Great work Lucas!
