On Wednesday, Year 4 impressed us with their fantastic class assembly; we couldn’t quite believe how much learning they’d managed to fit into one week!  We especially enjoyed the poems they had written about the sound collector and the information they gave us about the seven characteristics of living things.  We’re now looking forward to Year 5’s class assembly next week.  Also on Wednesday we all enjoyed celebrating Earth Day and it was great to see everyone in their earth coloured clothes.  Each class wrote an Eco-Code which was shared at the end of the day.  I know the Eco-Council are going to have difficulty choosing the final one from all the fantastic contributions!  A big thank you to Madame Jones for co-ordinating the activities.

Next week we are looking forward to our Coronation Celebration Day on Friday and I know Year 4 and Year 3 will be getting very excited about their residential visit to the Gordon Brown Centre.  Fingers crossed the weather improves and warms up a bit for them!  Whatever the weather, I know the children will have a brilliant week, taking part in lots of different activities and learning new skills.  Keep an eye out for the blog which will be updated daily with all their adventures.

Coronation Celebration Day – Friday 5th May

To mark the occasion of King Charles III’s coronation we are going to have a special celebration day on Friday 5th May.  Children may come to school wearing red, white and blue clothes, Union Flag inspired clothing, dress as royalty for the day, or come to school in their uniform as usual.  There will be some special coronation themed activities and, if your child is having a school dinner, the kitchen will be preparing a coronation themed lunch.  Year 3 and 4 will be on the last day of their residential visit to the Gordon Brown Centre but can still take part in the fun as they might like to save an item of red, white or blue clothing for that day.  Their teachers will also make sure they take part in some coronation themed activities when they return to school.  We have been busy learning some coronation songs in our collective worships and are all looking forward to celebrating this historic event together.

 

Earth Day Celebrations

This year's Earth Day gave the Eco-Council the perfect opportunity to raise some money for our nature reserve and to get everyone involved in the creation of our brand new Eco Code - a set of rules to help us all look after the planet.

Our Nature Reserve

Our brand new Nature Club started this week with a bioblitz to find out what is already living on the site.  We were very lucky to be joined by Sue and Barry from Froyle Wildlife, as well as Dr June Chatfield OBE, who is a biologist.  Thanks to their expertise, we were able to identify a range of species including the Budapest Slug, Wolf spider, Lords and Ladies and Ground Ivy. Thanks to the donations from our Earth themed dressing up on Wednesday, we will now be able to start developing the site and increasing the biodiversity, which will have huge benefits to nature and to our school community too.  Thank you to everyone who made a donation, we raised a fantastic £180.00.

 

Collective worship

This week Year 5 will be leading collective worship on Wednesday 3^rd May and parents are very welcome to join us to see their child.  Year 5’s assembly will be a celebration of their recent learning. It will last around 30 minutes and will take place in the Sports’ Hall at 9.05 a.m.

Basketball Competition

On Wednesday 26^th April, eight children from Year 5 and 6 made up the team of basketball players who went to compete in the Hampshire Basketball Final at Solent University after winning their previous round all the way back in November!

‘We think we played amazingly despite the tough competition.  After playing eleven games we were worn out but overall we were really proud with our performance. A massive thank you to Mr Goddard and Mrs Bowler for taking us to the event and to Miss Pidden for organising it’.

Bentley Archers Cricket Club

⭐️ Coronation Scavenger Hunt - Tuesday 9th May, at school pick up. 

£2 per scavenger - cash or card. Come along and search for all the coronation items hidden around the school grounds. There is a prize when you have found them all!

⭐️ Summer fair - Friday 23rd June 

Do you know of any local businesses willing to donate a prize for the raffle? Please ask around. The more prizes we can get, the better the raffle will be for everyone!

We have sponsorship from Hamptons Estate Agents for this event, and will be looking for houses to volunteer to have a sign outside to advertise the fair. Please let us know if you’d be happy to be one of these families or know someone who would.

⭐️ Bentley bike ride - Saturday 1st July 

Do you have any keen cyclists in your family? This year it is a family friendly route of 30km, aimed at teens around 10 years old and upwards. Sponsorship is per family. We need lots of Bentley families and friends to get involved and enjoy a (hopefully sunny!) ride through the countryside. Return back to the school with a bbq and bar ready for you!
