this week at Bentley.....
Thank you to everyone who has volunteered to help in school following the request in our newsletter last week. We are really looking forward to welcoming you in to support our children, especially with their reading development. If you are interested and haven’t yet been in touch, we still have times available across the school if you would like to help out. Just contact the office to let us know!
Thank you also for the donations of tissues we have already received. Please keep them coming in if it is your class’s month; it is really helping all the sniffly noses in school at the moment!
January – Year R, Year 2, Year 4 and Year 6
February – Year 1, Year 3 and Year 5
As usual, there has been lots of learning happening in school this week. Here are the children’s highlights:
R – beginning to learn how to program by using remote control cars in our computing lessons
1 – learning how to count to 20, understanding the place value of these numbers in our maths lessons
2 – identifying different shapes by looking at their properties and making our own 2D shapes in our maths lessons
3 – writing our own poems based on ‘Walking With My Iguana’, which we then performed to each other in our English lessons
4 – our trip to Butser Ancient Farm to help us with our learning in history - find out more in the newsletter next week!
5 – making ancient Egyptian death masks in our DT lessons
6 – programming our very own version of Pacman by using Scratch in our computing lessons

Swimming Gala
On Thursday 11th January, a team of 16 Key Stage 2 children from Years 3 – 6 participated in the Alton Schools’ Swimming Gala. 11 schools took part in total, with children competing in freestyle, backstroke and relay races. Our Bentley children demonstrated a super team spirit as they cheered each other on and swam their fastest for our school, scoring 80 points and coming 5th in the large schools’ category. Congratulations to all the swimmers and a big thank you to Mrs Forbes and Mrs Evans for helping us out too.

REMINDER
Deadline for year R 2024 applications - Monday 15th January 2024
SPRING PUPIL CENSUS
The pupil census takes place on Thursday 18th January 2024. The DfE uses this data to build national statistics, and it also contributes towards establishing our schools' funding allocations.
There will be a change of lunches next week as follows:-
Wednesday – Quorn in gravy and Yorkshire pudding or roast beef and Yorkshire pudding.
Thursday – Pizza or fish fingers
Friday – Sweet potato curry or fish fingers.
P.E. Clothing
P.E. carries on outside throughout the year. The weather is particularly cold at the moment, so could you please add some black or green jogging bottoms or leggings to your child’s P.E kit and make sure they have a school jumper with them.
LUNCH MONEY
Please remember that lunch money must be paid in advance. Lunches are £3.00 per day and there are 4 weeks of this half-term left, so if your child has school lunch every day £60 is needed to cover those lunches. We would appreciate payment in full; however, if this is not possible, we ask that every weekend you please ensure that there is at least £15 in your child’s account to cover the coming week’s lunches.
HAVING A POST CHRISTMAS CLEAR OUT?
If you are thinking of having a clear out, please remember the green textile collection bin at school, (located on the way round to the reception class entrance). You can deposit old clothes, bedding, towels and anything else made of fabric. The school is paid according to the weight donated. Items do not need to be in good condition, and you can bag them and drop them straight into the container.
